05232014 Water Color, Ink and Tzar Jay.  “Pronounced Czar Yay”                          Seriously.

I began a project dialing random telephone numbers beginning with area code 512. I asked whomever answered the phone to describe either their best anecdote, a life-changing decision, a childhood memory or simply speak to me about what they were doing at the time. …one might have been a Russian code writer.

512

Tzar explained to me, “The best music, is written with buttons.”

04302014  Oil pastels, rubber cement, and a torn magazine from a Book Stop Dumpster with Jon.

I began a project dialing random telephone numbers beginning with area code 512. I asked whomever answered the phone to describe either their best anecdote, a life-changing decision, a childhood memory or simply speak to me about what they were doing at the time. …

Jon felt like he was drowning and “Even if I had extra fingers to wave for help, no one would see me…I’m dead.”

Jon considered himself irreversibly depressed and unusually open.  I didn’t have to coax Jon into speaking more, however, I’m confident with promises and secrets.

People get lost out there.

04222014   Watercolor, Ink, 1979 Reader’s Digest Wide World Atlas and Rubber Rubber Cement: with Anna

I began a project dialing random telephone numbers beginning with area code 512. I asked whomever answered the phone to describe either their best anecdote, a life-changing decision, a childhood memory or simply speak to me about what they were doing at the time. …

She said.

“A year and a half later I find out Mexico is far from Detroit, much further than visiting him in Sterling Heights and we were in Warren.  We moved to Austin.         Austin.”

When Anna was five, her parent took her to Mexico every few weeks,

Anna simply described the visit as him a ” a languid, yeasty man in colorful pans”.  I spoke to her for two hours.

04182014 Watercolor and Ink with Bill

I began a project dialing random telephone numbers beginning with area code 512. I asked whomever answered the phone to describe either their best anecdote, a life-changing decision, a childhood memory or simply speak to me about what they were doing at the time….Sometimes I think they were “high brah”.

Bill, was the worst roommate, and laughed uncontrollably (But that wasn’t the reason why.). Bill’s nick name was “The Room”.

“I’m a husky man.” was how he began his story.  This image I painted was a depiction of his roommates because…he wished he could see the looks on their faces….because ‘The Room’ ate it….Get it?  The room ate it?”.

Bill aka The Room, ate all the groceries and leftovers “….while SMELLING some sherm..Ha Ah HA…sheeee”

“One of them white, they don’t need it.”

“Maybe room be eatin’ mee.”

“I am that kitchen room.”

Bill and I spoke for 15 minutes, and I just assumed his roommates would be thin.

04162014   Watercolor and Ink and with Tim.

I began a project dialing random telephone numbers beginning with area code 512. I asked whomever answered the phone to describe either their best anecdote, a life-changing decision, a childhood memory or simply speak to me about what they were doing at the time. I explained how I was going to illustrate their words with ink and paint while they spoke.

Tim recently married Fayne, and he  “really needed something considering…the underbelly of it all”.

“Someone at some time in his life, Tim took awhile to open.”

“As I would and most others I ‘solicited’, unknown person reluctant.”

“We’re just fucking bedposts.”

“Fayne spelled F     .   A.Y.N.    E.”

I spoke with Tim for an incurably explicit two hours.

04142014 Watercolors, Ink and Stephanie

I began a project dialing random telephone numbers beginning with area code 512.  I asked whomever answered the phone to describe either their best anecdote, a life-changing decision, a childhood memory or simply speak to me about what they were doing at the time.  I explained how I was going to illustrate their words with ink and paint while they spoke.

Everyone complimented Stephanie on her hair ( she is a stylist ), however she felt her “heart was strangled by her weight”.  Stephanie cried opening up to a stranger on the phone.  I tried giving her words of comfort, but I couldn’t paint her beautiful because I needed to represent “Steph” as she described herself and her predicament.    Stephanie didn’t elaborate beyond drastic surgery to “complete the inevitable”.  We talked for 20 minutes.
