04172014   Watercolor and Ink with Hank

I began a project dialing random telephone numbers beginning with area code 512. I asked whomever answered the phone to describe either their best anecdote, a life-changing decision, a childhood memory or simply speak to me about what they were doing at the time.  Some people told me jokes.

Hank was a self-proclaimed “old timey sarcastic Son’a Bitch.”  His routine presell began with…”There’s a difference between sarcasm and racism and I told enough jokes to kill 10% of the niggers and chinks around the world.”

Hank was a Navy Veteran, however, I’m not sure if he was a Christian.

Hank’s decision was to give me a joke to illustrate regarding the King James Bible Version .Mathew 28:28 – 30 (I knew the story, I just had to look up the numbers)

28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee upon the waters.

29 And he said, Come. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked upon the waters to come to Jesus.

30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.

Unfortunately, in Hank’s version, the punchline was “The Other Three Died.”
